We continued our discussions about the basics of economics today. We watched a few clips from "How its Made" and listed all of the productive resources that we saw going into the production of certain goods. I especially liked seeing how olive oil was made.

We then reviewed goods and services with a quick game and moved on to scarcity. Tomorrow we will continue talking about how scarcity leads into economic systems.

"Sick Man of Europe" (Ottoman Empire) Cartoon

Your homework (due Wednesday) is to complete your illustration of the "Sick Man of Europe". You are drawing a picture, or several pictures, that represent the weakening and death of the Ottoman Empire. Remember the it must include the symptoms (what made the empire weak) and what happened after it "died", collapsed. Who took over the lands of the empire? What caused them to weaken enough that the empire disappeared?
