How to focus a microscope:
In the picture linked below, sketch (and color) the six photos of cells, identify each as plant or animal cells and explain how you know.
Please use this table for the final draft of your cell analogy project.
For ANIMAL Cell:

For PLANT Cell (extra lines for chloroplast and cell wall):
Here are the guidelines for the cell project.

We began it today in class and will work on Tuesday in class, too. By Tuesday's end, you should be finished with your writing draft (for the table part) and have a rough draft of your picture. Otherwise, these will need to be completed over the Thanksgiving break, due on Monday.
We will have laptops on Monday and Tuesday to complete the typing of the table. Drawings can be finished in class as well next week.
Project is DUE Tuesday, Nov 27, when you leave my class. There will be a penalty for late projects. This project counts as a TEST GRADE.
This is a great opportunity to RAISE your GRADE.
Retakes for Cell Organelle Quiz can be made ANY morning up through Nov 27 (Tuesday). No retakes will be given after Nov 27.
In order to retake you must hand write all eleven organelles and functions in complete sentence form THREE TIMES each.
We are working Tuesday and Wednesday in the computer lab to create a map for each organelle (cell part) that will be on our organelle quiz.
They are:
1. Nucleus
2. Cell Wall
3. Cell Membrane
4. Mitochondria
5. Chloroplast
6. Ribosome
7. Vacuole
8. Lysosome
9. Endoplasmic Reticulum
10. Golgi Bodies
11. Cytoplasm
Use these two websites to help you learn about these organelles:

Cells Alive! (Click on plant or animal cell under the black box to see the interactive cell; OR just read down the page) MORE DIFFICULT DESCRIPTIONS and EXPLANATIONS on this website
Any student may retake the quiz from Friday any morning this week during homeroom beginning on Wednesday. These quizzes were returned today in class. Retake quiz will be DIFFERENT than the original but cover the SAME material. Thos who did not pass the quiz are REQUIRED to retake it.
Test corrections must be done for anyone who wants to retake. Corrections = copying all missed questions and corrected answers three times each. You should also have your quiz to turn in with your corrections when you retake.
tested words: autotroph, cell, controlled experiment, heterotroph, development, homoestasis, manipulaed variable, multicellular, organism, reproduce, response, spontaneous generation, stimulus, unicellular.
Notes from today's class on VIP 21:
Spontaneous generation is a MISTAKEN idea that living things can arise from non-living sources. Redi (1600's) and Pasteur (1800's) were two scientists who proved that this idea was INCORRECT. See pages 22 and 23 in textbook to complete tonight's assignment and for more info on Redi and Pasteur.
