Week of April 23-27

We're sorry we've been a bit behind on the blog! In 7th grade, we're really getting into our study of The DIary of Anne Frank.

4/23 and 4/24 We completed an in class webquest. Students were given the web pages to find information regarding Anne Frank and her family.

4/25 we read Act 1 Scene 1 and looked at the vocabulary words for the first part of the play.

4/26 We read Act 1 Scene 2 and began to fill out our character chart with stick figures and a description of each.

4/27 We took a break from DOAF and wrapped up our final book club. These meetings were tallied throughout the assignment and final grades were recorded as a major grade. If a student did not turn in his or her work, then his or her grade suffered. While you MAY NOT make up the discussion portions, you may turn in the Discussion Roles for partial credit.

Students recieved their graded webquests and were given the opportunity to correct their mistakes for partial credit.

Week of April 16-20

Monday and Tuesday : We read and watched "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" by Rudyard Kipling. Students answered questions as we read, but no grade was taken.

Wednesday: We began out unit on The DIary of Anne Frank by watching portions of the film I'm Still Here. The students answered two journal prompts, one as a preview and the other a wrap up.

Thursday: We continued with I'm Still Here and wrote a journal entry about the diary of an unknown girl. ANNOUNCEMENT: The final book club has been postponed until next week.

Friday: We started with a discussion about the seriousnous and gravity of this topic. We then finished the film and wrote a journal entry that asked what we can do in today's world to make a difference.

Week of April 9-April 13

We hope you had a restful and fun spring break! Now we're back and continuing with learning and preparing for the CRCT, but more importantly, for 8th grade and the experiences that await you there!

 On Monday, we completed a practice CRCT Reading passage with multiple choice questions from the literature book. If you missed it, you need to make it up as it was a classwork grade. We then compared objects using comparative and superlative adjectives. For example, Cato is cute. Peeta is cuter. Gale is the cutest. Students began pages 115-117 in their red grammar workbooks, and they finished it for homework.

Tuesday, we completed another reading practice from the literature book. This was not a grade, but it is beneficial to look over if you were absent. We then talked about what an idiom was. We discussed how if it were literally raining cats and dogs, we'd all be miserable. The students selected their own idiom and illustrated a literal meaning and the figurative meaning.

Wednesday, we shared our idiom drawings. We then looked back in history at one of the most significant disatsters of the 20th century. We read an excerpt about the sinking of the Titanic. As we read, we wrote definitions for 8 vocabulary terms and kept a timeline of the ships last day.

Thursday, Today we answered 5 questions about yesterday's Titanic story (page 115, 1-4 and 6). After that, we went to the computer lab where the students downloaded the template for a jeopardy review. They were responsible for working with a partner to creat 25 questions about 5 topics.  Download Jeopardy Template 5X5

Friday, March 30

In class today we will played the review games that we wrote questions for yesterday! We broke into groups of four to play CRCT Faceoff.

The questions that the students wrote yesterday were based off of the list of things that every 7th grader should know about Language Arts. This list can be found here: Download What Every 7th Grader Should Know about the English Language.

Have a safe Spring Break.

When we return, we'll start our sprint towards the ever-looming CRCT and the summer break that follows. Remember to read, write, and make GREAT choices.

Then, we split into groups once again. Ms. Mourdock's group covered the reading of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" on page 672 in the Lit book and answered comprehension and literary analysis questions on page 683, while working on making predictions throughout the reading. The text is available online on the right side of this page under Categories. Mr. Powell's group worked on www.myskillstutor.com on Sentence Structure activities.
