Dr. Nguyen and Ms. Calderon conducted a classroom guidance lesson on Cybersafety and Cyberbullying in 7th grade LA classes. Students learned the definition of cyberbullying, different ways to handle cyberbullying situations, and processed several hypothetical cybersafety and cyber bullying scenarios. Students also watched anti-cyberbullying videos made by McCleskey students.
The counselors surveyed the students at the beginning of each classroom lesson and discovered that 41% of students believe cyberbullying is a problem at our school and 22% of students expressed that they have been cyberbullied at some point. Seventy-seven percent of students knew which procedures to follow if they are being cyberbullied and we offered additional strategies to ensure all students know what to do if they are bullied online . The lesson provided an open discussion among students about cyberbullying and cybersafety and the counselors learned so much from the students about technology and online activity. We plan to continue these lessons in the coming years.
Parents, please contact Ms. Nguyen or Ms. Calderon if you have any questions.
