The McCleskey School Counselors are excited about the 2011-2012 school year and are looking forward to working with all McCleskey students! Mrs. Nguyen works with students in the 6th grade students and 7A and Mrs. Stalcup works with students in 8th grade and 7B students.
Mrs. Nguyen has completed her first classroom guidance lesson, Transitioning to Middle School, in the 6th grade Science classes. Students learned tips for a successful academic year as middle schoolers and played "Are you Smarter than a 5th grader?" with other students and adults in the building. Please ask your 6th grader about the tips we discussed to stay on track with academics!
Mrs. Stalcup will be in the 8th grade Science classes this week for her first lesson, Goal Setting. Students will learn about setting short term and long term goals and will review their 7th grade CRCT scores utilizing the Test Talk form created by former McCleskey principal, Dr. Chris Richie. Students will wrap up with a Family Fued Game to review the lesson.
We look forward to conducting a lesson in 7th grade about Academic Success in the next few weeks. Small group counseling will be starting soon and if your student signs up for group, he/she will bring home a permission form to be signed.
New Student Groups began last week! All new students to McCleskey were invited to join us and our Peer Helpers for helpful information about the school and to feel welcomed and comfortable in our school. We look forward to 2 more groups with our new students and we will announce the date of our New Student Breakfast for students and parents soon!
