February-March

Unit 7, which contains solids and measurement, was started last week.  It covers volume and surface area formulas for rectangular prism and cylinders, and also the volume of rectangular pyramids and cones. The students will be given the formulas on the CRCT test in April, so they just have to practice working them, because practice makes PERFECT.  Unit 8 starts probability, then direct variation(proportion).

January

All math classes worked on Unit 5 (Rotational and Line Symmetry) and Unit 6 (Measurement) this month.  Converting both customary and metric measurement were covered in detail. Students were also working hard to find area of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids.  All of this is contained in the standards for the CRCT in April, so students need much practice.  The second Benchmark county test will be given Friday, Feb. 1

December

Math 6  have just finished unit 4 on solving one-step equations, exponents, and order of operations.  The unit TEST was December 18, so we will start unit 5 on symmetry, reflection, rotation, and transformations and continue for the week after the holidays.

Math 6/7 have been busy working advanced multi-step equations, including the ones which have solutions of empty set and  all real numbers. They will test on this before the holidays and start unit 5 on symmetry and rotations.

November

Math 6--The students are finishing the unit on ratio, rate, proportion and percent, and they will review after Thanksgiving for the unit test.  The next unit is on one-step equations, exponents, and order of operations.

Math 6/7 has started unit 4 on exponents, order of operations, one-step equations after finishing the unit on integers. They will also learn to solve multi-step equations on this unit.

October

Math 6-Unit 3A test on decimals is Friday, Oct.5.  Then students will start reviewing fractions in chapter 4 sections 4,5,6,7 and chapter 5 sections 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Unit 3B will finish with chapter 7 sections 1,2,3,7,8,9,10 on ratio, rate, proportion and %.

Math 6/7 just finished the unit 3A on Decimals and Fractions on Oct 3 and will start ratio, rate, proportion and %  chapter 7 sections 1,2,3,7,8,9,10.  Then we will start the advanced curriculum with INTEGERS-chapter11 sections1,2,3,4,5,6,7.  The students are really excited about getting into the pre-algebra sections.

Welcome!!

Welcome to Math 6 and Math 6/7

Unit 2-Factors and Multiples (divisibility rules, prime factorization, greatest common factor, least common multiple)

Math 6 is now working on GCF this week and will do LCM next week, then there will be a review and a UNIT TEST will follow.

Math 6/7 just completed the unit and will review on Monday Sept 17th.  The unit TEST will be Tues, Sept 18th. Unit 3(decimals and fractions) will start next week.
