May

Both math 6 and math 6/7 have finished working on the 6th grade standards and seemed to have an easy time with the math CRCT given in the last 2 weeks of April.  Results should be back to McCleskey during the last week of school.

Math 6 started chapter 11 on integers last week, and will do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers then take a TEST on this probably Tuesday, May 19th.

Math 6/7 will review solving multi-step equations, then they will graph linear equations, find x and y intercepts, and  the slope of a line.

Last Standards

Both math 6 and math 6/7 are finishing units 8 & 9, which contains only three section: patterns, direct variation, and probability. The study guide can be found in the Worktext pg 3 to 7, pg 403 to 406, and pg 410 to 424.  All problems have been worked in class and students should have detailed solutions for each section.

Review for CRCT will start next week and continue for the first week after spring break.

March

The last nine weeks ended yesterday with math 6 taking the unit test, which was given over two days with a formula sheet.  Math 6/7 took it a week ago.

Math 6-Today we start Unit 8 Direct Proportion -Patterns and Sequences, then go to Direct Variationa and  Unit 9- a review of Probability.  There will be a unit test in two weeks on these three topics.

Math 6/7 also did arithematic and geometric sequences, as well as,the on-level patterns and sequences.

Study guide for unit 8 and 9 will be posted on the blog next week, so students can print their own copy.

February

Math 6/7 took the unit 6  test on Feb. 4, and will start unit 7(Solids & Measurement) on Thursday. There will be a review of area and circumference of the circle to prepare for volume and surface area of rectangular prism and cylinder, then volume of a cone and rectangular pyramid. Students will be given the formulas for the computation.

Math 6 is on the last three sections of unit 6 ( chapter 7-lesson 4,5,6) and will receive a study guide for the unit 6 test which will probably be on Wednesday, Feb 11th.  Then they will also start unit 7.

December

Math 6-With only two weeks left in the second nine weeks, students are working hard to review unit 4 on one-step equations, and order of operations.  The unit test is this week.

Math 6/7- Students are reviewing multi-step equations and order of operations. Their unit test is Thurs.

Both math 6 and math 6/7 will start unit 5 on line and rotational symmetry which is chapter 8 lesson 11.

Wishing all students and their families a peacful, joyous holiday season.

November

Math6-Students are finishing unit 3B on ratio, proportion and percent with only two sections left to cover on sales tax, tip, and discount and % of a circle. The unit test will probably be next week, and a study guide will be given to each student to prepare for the unit test. The next unit starts with one-step equations, which is chapter 1 lesson 3 on exponents, and lesson 4 on order of operations.  The unit will continue after the Thanksgiving holidays.

Math 6/7-Students have been working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing  negative and positive rational numbers. This has been a challenge for many students to apply the integer rules for fractions and decimals. We will start unit 4 on one-step equations next week with exponents and order of operations, then move to two-step and multi-step equations after Thanksgiving.

October

Math 6/7 finished decimals and fractions and took a unit test, and now they are working with adding and subtracting integers.  Thery will finish multiplying and dividing integers this week.

Math 6 is finishing adding and subtracting  fractions today, and will review multiplying and dividing by the end of the week. The unit test on the fractions will be next week.

Both math classes will start unit 3B on Ratio, Percent and Circle graphs.  This is chapter 7, lessons 1-3,7-10 and chapter 9 lab 9-8. Unit 4 is one-step equations from chapter 1 lesson 3 and 4, and chapter 2, lesson 1-8

September

Math 6/7 is finishing unit 2 and will have the unit test on Monday, Sept 8. Unit 3 will start Tues.

Math 6 finished prime factorization and started greatest common factor today. There will be a quiz on Tuesday, Sept 9, then we will complete unit 2 with least common multiple next week.  The unit 2 test will be Monday Sept 15.

Unit 3 consists of decimals and fractions for both math 6 and math 6/7. The advanced class will also have integers and absolute value.

Unit 3 follows chpt 3, sections 3, 5, 6, 7

                    chpt 4, sections 4, 5, 6

                    chpt 5, sections 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9

This is all of the material for the first nine weeks.
