Wednesday

We continued to work on our project concerning the various ways we communicate with others over distance. Students should be completing their surveys and getting prepared to distribute these surveys. Tomorrow we will also work on the project but we will spend some time on Brain Pop looking at waves, light and sound. There are various opportunities for students to increase their understanding in science and one of them is the "Online Assessment System" developed by the Georgia Department of Education. This site allows students to access online tests to see what types of questions are important to the study of science and to the CRCT. I have posted one test on the site now that students may attempt. Students can access the test at:

https://georgiaoas.org

Student ID is their GTI# that should have come from the homeroom teacher (it looks like their SS #); password will be education. I have general instructions if you would like to obtain a copy. Students can take general tests in their subject area or look for teacher-assigned tests. This is a great resource so give it a try.

Monday

We are beginning to look at various forms and transformations of energy. How do we communicate with people that are in other cities. Students will be developing surveys that will be given to friends and family about their use of various forms of electronic communication. Surveys should be given to at least 20 people and have 8 to 10 questions. Results will be due 1/8/08 when they come back from the break. We will then analyze the results, graph the information and present to the class.

Thursday

What is the difference between transverse and longitudinal waves? We used a toy to demonstrate these two types of waves today in the "Wavy Motions" lab. Slinkys are still fun after all these years and they do a great job of demonstrating these waves.

Wednesday

Today we reviewed our quiz on temperature and thermal energy. We began work on waves to prepare for our study of light and sound coming up.

Thursday

How does thermal energy produce a change from one state of matter to another? We are currently working on thermal energy and temperature and today we covered how thermal energy affects the changes in state of matter. We have completed a great deal of work in out composition books lately so make sure they are submitted for grading. We also explored how fire sprinklers work today and tomorrow we will look at engines. Quiz on Monday, 12/10 covering Chapter 14, Heat and Thermal Energy.
