I hope each of you did well on the CRCT and in particular the Science. Attached is our next assignment which is a group project. In this project your group will be designing a board game that will help in your and other students' understanding. This will be due next Friday, 5/8. Good luck and work hard!Download Science Board Game Instructions

Have a wonderful Spring Break. Get some rest and come back refreshed and ready for the CRCT. Continue to work on the CRCT preps in your textbook to get ready.

Hopefully this post goes through; I've had difficulty for awhile getting things posted. We are just about ready to begin reviewing for the CRCT but first we will complete energy transformations and conversions. Remember the principles of the Law oc Conservation of Energy and you should do well. Attached is one of the options that you can complete for the assessment on this unit which is due at the end of class tomorrow. Download Energy Transformations

I apologize for being so long between posts. I unfortunately have had difficulty getting on the blog site. I don't know if this was due to our lack of bandwidth or operator error. We have completed our studies on waves and sound. We are now in the middle of light and the electromagnetic spectrum. We are completing some drawings comparing the various waves in the electromagnetic spectrum with a focus on source, wavelength, frequency and energy levels. We should complete this tomorrow and move onto light properties next week. Attached is and example of the electromagnetic spectrum.

We are in the middle of conferences and it has been great to sit and discuss your progress with your parents. We are working on circuits and focusing on the differences between series and parallel. We are putting actual circuits together today. Last week we worked on some on-line simulations to prepare us for today's activity. Many really liked the simulations so I am listing the website. There are many great science simulations so give them a try. http://phet.colorado.edu/new/simulations/

I've had some trouble getting into the blog after the break so I apologize. We are just about complete with our class activity "Physicsquest" where we are using experiments to learn about Nicolas Tesla and the discoveries that he made about electricity. We will continue this study next week when we move into circuits and do some exploring in that area.

I hope everyone had a great break, before you know it the school year will be over. We need to work hard to get ourselves ready for testing in April and our benchmark tests we took before the break looked pretty good. We just need to buckle down and stay focused. We reviewed the benchmark test on Tuesday and will be taking an on-line assessment next Monday to see where we stand. Also, over the next two weeks we are working on Physicsquest, a national science competition. We learn some great science stuff while completing experiments and having some fun. This year's competition is around Nikola Tesla so it fits right into the curriculum at the right time. If you want to check it out, information can be found at  PhysicsQuest 2008: Nikola Tesla and the Electric Fair

Last week before the Winter Break! Remember that it is also the end of the nine weeks so make sure all work has been submitted. Today we had the counselor, Ms. Stalcup, in class to discuss high school. We will have a lab on pulleys tomorrow and further work on simple machines on Wednesday. Thursday will be a benchmark test and Friday is the mock Writing Test. Busy week!

We are spending our days experimenting and discussing Newton's three Laws of Motion. We will be testing on this area on Thursday 12/11. In preparation the students should be completing the section reviews on pages 157, 165, and 169 in the textbook along with the chapter review on pages 172 and 173. This information will be used as a study guide for the test. Don't forget that there are many online resources to help you to get ready and they are all on your online textbook.

Today we began to look at the three Laws of Motion attributed to Isaac Newton. To help introduce these concepts we had a demonstration on projectile motion and a short lab on centripetal motion. We will continue on these three laws of motion for the next week and probably test on them next Wednesday 12/10.
