This week in Reading, we finished reading "Under the Royal Palms" for our Narrative Reading Unit. Students then reflected on two of the stories, and identified figurative language within the book.
In Language Arts, we started our Narrative Writing assignment. For this assignment, students will write a five paragraph essay, describing an event from their childhood. This correlates with the book we completed in reading.
Look for future posts with information and resources on the writing process.
I'm sorry I missed you this evening! Unfortunately, my son's Open House was scheduled for the same night. I am middle school parent for the first time!
Please review the attached PowerPoint for our daily class routines.
Summer reading book talks will be done in my Language Arts class only. Please make sure you are finishing your book if you haven't yet, or quickly start a rather short one if you did not read anything this summer!
You were to read 2-3 books over the summer, and choose your favorite for a book talk presentation
For those of you that have not yet finished your book, or did not read anything over the summer, you have two weeks to complete this assignment--the book talk is due Friday, August 13.
Please come and see me if you have difficulty deciding on a book!
This will count as a homework grade (10%) of your overall grade.
Welcome to the 2010-11 school year! I am looking forward to a great 8th grade year, with lots of reading and writing!
Please check my blog daily for updates and information.
Due to the hot weather, please send in a refillable water bottle with your child. Remember, they are now allowed on the buses in the afternoon for the time being.
