In the event that your child did not complete their homework as it is not yet an established routine in our class, I am more than happy to accept a late assignment for a partial grade.

Sample Papers

Woman_pointing_to_ins_a_lw Today we read sample papers from the DOE website, and students really enjoyed hearing other students' work. The sample papers were from last year's prompt which dealt with school transportation.

The sample papers provide concrete examples to the students of how best to write their paper, and what pitfalls to avoid.

Mock Writing Essays

Essay Today we began reading the essays from the mock writing test. Students had a copy of the rubric that is used to score the actual writing assessment. I read the students' papers (anonymously), and we discussed what score that paper might have received had it been for the actual writing test.

The students really enjoyed hearing other students' writing, and their comments and constructive criticism showed a high level of engagement. Tomorrow we will read some actual essays from last year's writing test.

Our main focus has been writing great introductions, and creating sentences that contain vivid and vivacious verbs!

I am very pleased to announce that my blog now has a button that you can click to subscribe. It will be delivered to the inbox of the email address that you provide. It is located on the right sidebar, under "Categories."
