PTSA Day at the Capitol for Students
February 9th, 2012
10 am – 12 pm
Fulton County Government Center
141 Pryor Street SW
Atlanta, GA

PTSA Day at the Capitol is designed to help high school students gain a better understanding of legislative issues affecting schools and how state and local decisions affect their daily lives as young adults. Inspiring and educational, the program will:
- Assist students in becoming effective advocates in their school and community
- Inform students about the HOPE scholarship and how the changes may affect their college funding
- Learn from their peers, including representatives from Skills, USA, Centennial High School and the PILOT Program at Redan High School
- Teach students why PTSA information about impending legislation is important and how it can be used to influence school policy locally and statewide
- Offer an optional Capitol tour and Gallery visit
You are to write me a short essay/response (anywhere from 1-4 paragraphs) that explains why it is that wish to be selected for the experience and why it is that you believe you deserve to be selected. This should be a typed response and should be sent to my school email address: melissa.winters@cobbk12.org by 1 PM on Monday, Jan. 16.
